V13 PREMIERES ‘ALWAYS BLUE’ BY RYAN WEBSTER

October 23, 2020 by catbeachmusic

“Webster was motivated to write [Always Blue] after experiencing the feeling of falling in love with his wife again. Despite our various shortcomings and imperfections, we accept each other for who we are and in that acceptance, we can rekindle those particular feelings that we have not experienced for a long time.”

Thanks to V13 for the great review on Ryan’s latest single ‘Always Blue!

CATBEACH MUSIC DEBUTS MUSIC FROM NEW BAND – BURNING POOLS

August 28, 2020 by catbeachmusic

Led by former Smashing Pumpkins bassist Ginger Pooley, Burning Pools has long been in the making. She and husband Kristopher Pooley had been demoing songs showcasing Ginger’s penchant for empowering protest lyrics clothed in pop hooks, when they decided to reach out to guitarist Max Bernstein. He promptly added some tracks with a sub-octave fuzz permanently in the “on” position. Instantly, the three decided that Kris (a keyboard player by trade) would dust off his drum kit as this was not a synth operation —and a band was born.

The band’s three members share a long list of studio and touring credits and collectively have worked with rock legends like Tom Morello, Siouxsie Sioux, Slash, Morrissey, Liz Phair, Scott Weiland, Tegan and Sara, and bands like Jane’s Addiction and Weezer. They’ve also had their hands in the pop world, though it is clear that its influence is positively nil. Their unique brand of noisy power-pop with doomy riffs charts a different sonic course, harkening more to the loud drum and guitar squalls that Kris and Ginger experienced as newlyweds on the Smashing Pumpkins tours.

Their debut EP, set to release in early 2021, is a critique of society’s values versus what is deemed less important. Ginger shares, “It’s nothing new for music to be a voice of criticism of our culture. That is the purpose of a lot of art. This is just my way of expressing my frustration with the priorities of modern society. Valuing money over everything, undervaluing women and people of color. Hopefully our songs make people who are of the same accord feel heard and supported. There is so much injustice in the world, we hope to be a part of the solution in some small way.”

“Bang Bang”, the bands lead single, features gritty, distorted guitars and crashing percussion, emphasizing the angst and disappointment they have towards life’s unjusts. Their debut single releases Friday, September 4 on all digital platforms via CatBeach Music and InGrooves Distribution.

Bands like Burning Pools are supposed to play shows — and to the list of the world’s upended plans of 2020 we add the dream of taking these songs beyond streaming platforms to the stage where a power trio can actually be one in real time. In the meantime, Burning Pools will be releasing singles from their forthcoming EP.

KATHLEEN SIECK PARTNERS WITH CATBEACH MUSIC

KATHLEEN SIECK
PARTNERS WITH CATBEACH MUSIC
FOR UPCOMING EP

Kathleen is in the studio finishing up the final touches on her latest EP – a statement piece from this seasoned singer-songwriter. Paired with a classic sound, her pop melodies create a sense of melancholy and nostalgia, with lyrics deeply rooted in a sense of time and location. Produced by Raymond Richards, look for this new project to be released via CatBeach Music, in Spring 2018.

A California native, Kathleen’s music is a collection of poetry and storytelling that reflects life and love on the Central Coast of California. Pulling from the traditions of old-school country music, early-American folk and gospel, and singer-songwriters such as Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Josh Ritter and Noah Gundersen, Kathleen’s clear and tranquil voice and lyrics combine to create a fresh and soulful style of Americana-folk.

Born and raised in the Santa Ynez Valley, Kathleen began studying piano at the age of 4 and violin soon after.  As an elementary student, she developed a passion for writing and storytelling, and she worked on several novels, finishing a History of the Kings and Queens of England during her freshman year of high school.

In 2012, Kathleen began writing and performing Americana music. Inspired by the impressive wealth of musical tradition that has arisen out of North America, particularly folk, gospel, and old-school country, she wrote and co-produced Where the Sleepers Lie (2014). The album is an evocative collection of love songs, robust and passionate storytelling and poetry. It reflects the spirit and essence of the Central Coast and also hearkens back to an earlier time.

Since that time, Kathleen has been writing new music and playing live shows all throughout the Central Coast. She was invited to play Adam Duritz’s (The Counting Crows) NYC – Outlaw Roadshow in 2016 and has participated in the Durango Songwriter Festival. With the release of her new EP, we’ll see her hit the road with family and friends this summer. Dates to come!
